Elizabeth Funderburk joined CHPA in 2004 to direct the association’s media relations efforts and assist in a number of its communications campaigns. She serves as CHPA’s primary media liaison and assists in the development and creative content associated with many of CHPA’s educational programs. Funderburk also provides support for senior CHPA staff when testifying before the U.S. Congress or FDA on issues relating to over-the-counter medicines or nutritional supplements.
Since coming to CHPA in 2004, Funderburk worked to establish and provide support for states interested in participating in CHPA’s Meth Watch program; assisted in the development and rollout of the Rx and OTC Medicine Abuse Awareness Campaign, launched in May 2006 by CHPA and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America; managed the creation and outreach for the Community Anti-Drug Coalition’s and CHPA’s joint effort to raise awareness about medicine abuse in communities through its Dose of Prevention campaign; and managed the Association’s transition to a new identity and logo commemorating CHPA’s 125th anniversary.
Prior to joining CHPA, Funderburk spent eight years (1996-2004) working both in the legislative and press operations in U.S. House of Representatives. After a two-year stint with former Congressman Bob Clement (D-Tenn.), she moved to the office of Congressman Peter Deutsch (D-Fla.), where she spent six years serving in as Deutsch’s legislative and communications director, managing the day-to-day operations of the congressman’s Washington, D.C., office and serving as his liaison for all U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee activity.
